I like and respect John Green. It was interesting to go back to an author I cherished so much in high school and see if I felt differently. Now, it does feel very high school. Green books always have the same overall thesis, one that I needed to learn in high school. But now, since the characters haven’t learned that lesson yet, they’re kinda insufferable. But I suppose that’s the point. It was a good story, and I’ll always respect and appreciate John Green, but I’m glad I’m ready for new books now.

first book of the year — highly doubt it’ll end up being a favourite. i felt like some sections of the book were so irrelevant that if u cut it out, the book would still make sense. for example, the talk about stars & space.... like what??? i think i was mistaking the story for a snooze bomb because i swear to god i felt my eyes suddenly drain of water when i was reading. idk, that’s just how i felt personally.
i also felt that the romance was a little ‘bitter’ in my opinion. i understand that Aza does have mental problems and tbh it wasn’t really her that bothered me, but idea that there even had to be a romance (between her and Davis). that’s one thing that would’ve made sense if it were cut out.
and... who was Mychal again????
rant over.
loved Daisy.

I liked once it got to the friendship conflict, was the most emotionally compelling part. I read a few of his books for the first time this summer, and feel like his characters are a little too self-hating.
