The second novel in this trilogy is as excellent as the first. first one must be read to understand this novel. This book is the continuation of the modern world which is in ruins and how it becomes the setting of the author's Shannara books.

This was a decent adventure story, with the expected plot twists and such. It
wasn’t as much a cliff hanger as [book:Armageddon's Children], but it was close. It continues the
story, tracking the same two paladin types through their troubles. At the end,
each is mortally wounded, but with their charges safe and about to heal them.

A typical second book in a trilogy--not very good. I was disappointed with this one. I like Terry Brooks, but the plot seemed to jump all over the place. Information would be left out, and then all of a sudden we would be somewhere else. I found myself skipping ahead because even some of the dialogue felt pushed. Love both Knights of the Word, but all the elven characters don't seem real. Oh well. On to the last book!

There were two main POVs and one smaller POV in this book, and while both main POVs were great, and the other one was decent, I’m not gonna lie and say I wasn’t annoyed each time the POVs switched. Regardless this was a pure fun read and ended in such a way I was anxious to read the final book in this trilogy.

I enjoyed the expansion of the world in this book, but other than that it was just okay. It didn't hold my attention as much as the first book. I don't know how much of that is the writing style and how much is my mental state though. I don't think I will be reading the third book in the trilogy.
