There are passages in this book that make me squeal in happiness.

Sometimes I imagine there's a clerk sitting behind a desk situated between the brain and the mouth, whose job it is to examine utterances, and either stamp them with approval or send them back for reconsideration. If there is such a clerk, mine must be very harried and overworked, and sometimes he just lays his head on the desk in despair and lets things pass without a second glance.

This, among others, keeps dragging me back to read and reread the whole series.

"My artistic, keen-eyed love, my angel of the pencil. Can you record it?"

Absolute favorite, hands down. I've loved all of them, but this one was absolutely captivating. This series is particularly good at combining the science of the naturalists with the intricate, detailed worldbuilding of the places that they explore along the way. You would think that my favorite would have been the last one, because I'm an absolute sucker for ships and ocean voyages, especially ones that end in dragons. But the Labyrinth of the drakes was so gorgeous, both in descriptions and sketches. The desert adventurer thrilled the part of me that was dazzled by ancient Egypt and movies like The Mummy in my formative years. The sand storms! The horror of the captive dragons! The ancient temples! I was so pleased with every page, and forgive me for saying it, but the romance in this one was far superior to the one in the first book. They're just so well-suited to each other, it's impossible for the giddiness not to rub off on you. I am looking forward to the last book so, so much.

I really, really liked this installment in the Lady Trent series. I don't think the beginning was quite as strong as the previous books. But the middle, and especially the end, were full of fast-paced fun. Can't wait to read the next one.

So it turns out this is my favourite book in the series so far! Smart, exciting, and emotional, this book brought all the highlights of the previous memoirs to the forefront and added a much more personal adventure to our hero's extraordinary life.

There was a large amount of action in this book, more than there have been in the past. I also completely loved the setting and the culture presented. I felt like I was transported to another world and on an adventure with Isabella and her companions. The Labyrinth was a particular draw and I honestly wished we could have spent more time there.

Another highlight for me was the relationship between Isabella and Suhail, and its obstacles. It helped Isabella continue to grow and mature as a character. Her ideas involving dragons were truly engaging and thoughtful, and speak of high creativity from the author.

I truly can't get enough of these memoirs and can't wait to see how it ends!
