I realize this was for young children that did not necessarily grow up with Star Wars, but I was hoping for more "in jokes" and references.

There were quite a few good ones though! I would definitely recommend this to kids. It's sort of cross between a graphic novel and a wimpy kid-esque book. Lot's of fun!

{My thoughts} – Have you ever been curious what it would be like to attend an academy just for the Jedi? If you have then this book will probably be the perfect read for you. I have been wanting to read these books for awhile and just now got around to buying the first four in the series for my daughter. She loves comics and graphic novels and I thought they would be fun reads for her, as everyone in our family enjoys Star Wars.

It didn’t take me long to read through this book and I must say it was rather entertaining. It is written in the same style as the DC Society books by Derek Fridolfs. If you have read and enjoyed those books, you will more then likely enjoy these books.

Roan is an interesting little boy. He wants to attend the Flight Academy but he doesn’t get in. Instead he is set to start at the Plant Academy and he isn’t real thrilled about it. His whole life he’d been looking forward to following in the footsteps that his Grandpa, Father and Brother have laid out for him. However, the world seemed to have a different plan in mind for him. He was set to start at the Plant Academy when he got a letter that was inviting him to attend school at the Jedi Academy. Given Roan’s age this was mostly unheard of.

Roan starts school at the Jedi Academy and he does normal subjects and Jedi subjects. He makes friends and learns who to stay away from. Some of the kids in his class I’d consider mean and bully material. He does his best and finds out that he has a crush on a girl in his class. He misses school when he is home and home when he is at school.

I think that any child that loves Star Wars will enjoy reading this book. I love the illustrations within the pages. They give you a lot to look at and explore. I enjoy reading books like this because they are fun reads. I think that any child would be lucky to have this book added to their home or school library.

Art so cute. Plot not very memorable. Mostly what I remember thinking is, gosh I hope all these characters graduate before all of them are murdered.

This was like Diary of a Wimpy Kid but better (I'm a tad partial to Star Wars). Super cute, picked up the 2nd book so I'm going to read that next!

Thanks to my boyfriend for giving me the boxset of these as a present! <3

This was such a fun, delightful book. I am so happy that I got these as a present (my boyfriend knew just how much I wanted them). The book is a diary, with added letters, posters, comics, it was truly fun how much diversity there was in the material. From written diary entries to comic entries, you really get a feeling that you know Roan, that you are there with him in the Jedi Academy.

I loved the Jedi Academy, I felt sorry for Roan though for a bit. Rejected at one school, doomed to go to the Planter School (which sounds absolutely dreadful), and then (magically and amazingly) getting invited to the most exclusive school of all time, and one where you generally don't get in when you are Roan's age. So everything is new to him. From finding the Force (everyone seemed to be able to do it), to lightsabers, to Yoda and his funny way of talking. Luckily, Roan is one to make friends, and he soon has several people who he can call friends, and also one special person (which was just adooooraaaablee!). Sadly the Jedi Academy also hosts some not so nice characters, characters I will be seeing on the dark side sooner or later.

There was just one little thing I didn't like. The first semester was quite long, but the second one just flew by. I just wish the second semester had gotten a bit more pages. There seemed to be all kinds of fun things, and while most things did get mentioned, it still felt a bit too fast.
Still I like that each year of Jedi Academy will mean one book. Though it will also mean the series will be over soon.

I also have to give a special mention to the adorable and cute little brother of Roan, who tried to act like his brother and lift up cups or stuff (by holding it) and going that he was using the force! So cuuuute!

The Jedi Academy really seemed like a great place to be, and I wish we had schools like that here. I wouldn't mind learning to use the Force (would make it easier to carry around my books, or lift them from one place to another), or dancing with a lightsaber. And then there are all kinds of other classes which just look so much fun!

I do have to wonder why Roan wasn't picked for that Pilot school, we were given some reasons, but given his grades, his determination, his awesomeness with fixing stuff, I do wonder if it wasn't a ploy all along. Since Yoda did mention that Roan had a lot of potential, and generally people don't get picked to go to Jedi Academy when they are Roan's age.
Maybe we will find it out in the next book(s). Would be a nice twist to the story.

It was great fun to see all the species that I know (and often loved) from the Star Wars universe, to see their worlds, to read about their worlds. And of course it was great to see Yoda is around, he is always so interesting and funny. Though his speech gives me a headache at times.

All in all, I would highly recommend this book to everyone, this is one amazing book, and I think everyone (young and old) will love it!

This one is actually a story (unlike the Vader ones) and doesn't have any Star Wars characters other than Yoda. It's fun though.

Jeffrey Brown's Jedi Academy is a hilarious graphic novel for ages 8 and up that had me laughing out loud. Roan Novachez wants to go to Pilot Academy like his older brother and grow up to be a pilot like his dad. When he is rejected by the school, he thinks he's going to be relegated to farming on Tatooine. A letter from Jedi Academy shows up and Roan learns that he has been chosen by master Yoda himself to join. The problem is that Jedi are usually chosen at a younger age, so Roan has some catching up to do.

Much of it is told like a scrapbook with journal entries, class schedules and letters from home. There are encounters with bullies and failed homework and science projects. Roan feels like he's never going to make it, but with the help of his friends and master Yoda, you never know. He may even come to terms with becoming a Jedi instead of a pilot.

Jeffrey Brown is the author of Darth Vader And Son (which is also hilarious). His style here is just perfect for younger readers (and older Star Wars fans), and it's a really sweet story.

Very neat book and a recommended, lighter-side read for any Star Wars fan. I hope Roan's adventures continue!
