3.13 AVERAGE

I kept reading the book, waiting for something ghostly to happen and it never did and then it was over and all I felt was relieved that it was over.
The thing I disliked most about this book was the characters seemed underdeveloped, or at the very least I was never able to feel a connection to them and therefore never cared what happened to them.

I absolutely loved "The Thirteenth Tale", so I was really excited to read this newest one by Diane Setterfield. However, I was majorly disappointed. It started off okay, but in the end, I felt like it was more a novel detailing how to operate a retail business than anything. Boring. I did not find the main character, Will, likable at all. It made me so mad how he got so upset about his last daughter dying, and was completely desperate to save her any way he could, and then when she did live, all he did was go off to London and COMPLETELY IGNORE HER. That made me so mad! What was the point of this story? I honestly have no idea. I kept waiting for something really interesting to happen, but it was page after page of "We're out of Italian leather gloves" and Will obsessing about his sales totals. Blah!

Interesting. Would not say it's a page turner like the 13th Tale. I have one other in the queue for this author so we'll see which side of the fence it falls on!

Interesting story, Death never goes out of style. This is story of one mans journey to his death and life that he leads up to death, as he never does live his life.

Bellman and Black was well written with a unique story to tell. I'm not sure my life is any better or even any different for having read it. If Setterfield was trying to convey a message, I missed it.

Mystery/Thriller is my usual genre so this seemed pointless in comparison - there was no ending triumph or glorious resolution.

Absolutely brilliantly written. Grips the reader from start to end and never lets go.

I didn't find this story to be all that riveting. It starts out haunting, a sense of foreboding ever present. But nothing ever happens to keep that feeling alive. Not nearly as good as The Thirteenth Tale.

I had high hopes, having loved her first book, and finished this purely out of loyalty. I have NO IDEA what it was actually about. A really protracted morality tale about throwing rocks at birds?

I read this as part of the read a long hosted by Katie of Books and Things.

This isn’t a book I wouldn’t normally have picked up but I really enjoyed it. I loved the writing style, I felt like I was right there in the story.

I will definitely read more from this author.

3.5 to be honest. I need time to digest this one.
