I really enjoyed reading this book a lot and it helped me put my own life into perspective. I also related a lot to Mara’s character and I really enjoyed watching her relationship with Arthur blossom as they continued to journey together. I also liked the relationship between Arthur and his father, and how similar it is to Arthur’s father’s relationship with his father. I didn’t fully like how the story ended, but I did like that Arthur empathized with Jack, and offered him a chance of redemption.

Absolutely not what I expected
Description of this book is confusing and misleading
But it is definitely worth reading ❤️

I wanted to love it, but it got weird about a third of the way in.

I passed this book more than a dozen times, shelving, and always found myself pulled towards it. Two years had passed before I finally flipped to the first page, and I must advise others not to wait on this story as I did. In a lot of ways, I wish I could reread this book with the same fresh eyes I had a few days ago. Beautiful and emotional is all I really have to say.

While I loved the format of this book and the structure, I felt like there were so many serious and important topics that were completely brushed over by this book. I don’t feel that our protagonist actually learned anything from his adventure. “Everything turned out okay in the end!” is not how a domestic violence, suicide, almost murder story is supposed to go, especially being called YA realistic fiction. I didn’t find much sympathy for the protagonist as he seems to only care about himself and the rest of the characters felt underdeveloped. Not really something I see myself recommending.
