This bridge between the two main books in the series is a critical read! Through flashbacks of some unseen time in Sheol and dealing with PTSD and new fears, this book shows Paige’s human-ness and how healing can be a slow and painful process.

Warden has always been my one complaint in this series as I never understood his character in terms of the romantic interest, but this story really made me like him a lot more!

Don’t skip this short story!!

Feels weird to try rate this as a normal book because it wasn’t long enough to really develop or achieve anything. Good interlude though.

A nice intermission between The Song Rising and The Mask Falling. I like that it focuses on Paige’s trauma and PTSD and her struggle to work through it. It also showcases Warden’s patience and willingness to care for her without overpowering her or belittling her emotions/memories. Very sweet. I love them.
