I actively disliked this book. I haven’t read anything quite as shallow as this; no characters had any depth or substance whatsoever. Not sure if that’s because the author bit off more than she could chew and just had too many characters to keep track of? Kind of what it felt like to me. I am one who can totally get down with an “escape the world” type of book with a fluffy, cute plot that just makes you smile. But this was to the point where it felt impossible to even care about any of the characters and there was zero semblance of a plot. When I tell you that nothing happens in this book, I mean NOTHING happens in this book. I wouldn’t ever recommend this to anyone.

I honestly really enjoyed this. I don’t read a lot of literary fiction, but decided to pick this up on a whim. It’s really good. I love the way it talks about complex and difficult family dynamics in a way that still feels light and fun.
