The first four chapters of this book should have been the ending of the last book in my opinion. I think it would have left the series at a great point for the next book, but then again, I'm not a writer for a living. This book was quite a bit better than Armageddon's Children in my opinion and felt far more focused on a central storyline than its predecessor. It took me from the state of confusion that I felt at the end of AC and put me right where I need to be heading into Gypsy Morph. It's almost certain that there are still elements of surprise waiting but I just have an overwhelming feeling of generally knowing what's coming and anticipating a pretty enticing read in the next book.

It never ceases to amaze me how comfortable and familiar it is to be reading a Terry Brooks Trilogy. This second book continues as gripping as the first with yet another cliffhanger ending for motivation to get started on the last (not that I would need any encouragement anyway). Its great to continue discovering more about how Shannara is formed and the development of the elven characters. I'll be starting the last in the trilogy tonight for sure!
The second novel in this trilogy is as excellent as the first. first one must be read to understand this novel. This book is the continuation of the modern world which is in ruins and how it becomes the setting of the author's Shannara books.

This was a decent adventure story, with the expected plot twists and such. It
wasn’t as much a cliff hanger as [book:Armageddon's Children], but it was close. It continues the
story, tracking the same two paladin types through their troubles. At the end,
each is mortally wounded, but with their charges safe and about to heal them.

A typical second book in a trilogy--not very good. I was disappointed with this one. I like Terry Brooks, but the plot seemed to jump all over the place. Information would be left out, and then all of a sudden we would be somewhere else. I found myself skipping ahead because even some of the dialogue felt pushed. Love both Knights of the Word, but all the elven characters don't seem real. Oh well. On to the last book!
