I've read a lot of crime books but this went above and beyond. Some tend to leave out technical terms in favor of being more accessible to the ignorant readers, but this book was very technical and it included an appendix in the back, which was great. I enjoy reading crime, horror, gore, etc, but one scene in particular was intense. And I loved it. I'm definitely going to be picking up the rest in the series when I get the chance.

Jeffery Deaver wrote an incredible plot twist. I loved how the suspense never ended while managing to make it feel high stakes the entire time. I also like the killer’s creativity and how well the author is able to leave a trail of evidence for the characters to follow. Giving the detective only a small pile of dirt from the bottom of a boot is practically nothing clue-wise. To show a believable narrative analyzing and understanding such little evidence is incredible and makes the hunt so much more interesting. I love books that really feel well researched. I wouldn't know if it's accurate, but it feels science-y enough for me.

I've not been this gripped by a book in a long time. Great plot, great characters. Couldn't put it down! I can't wait to read the rest of the Lincoln Rhyme series.
