A page-turner for sure, but flicking from first person to third between chapters was a poor (and unnecessary) authorial choice. I just couldn't get into the book because of that.

James Patterson writes page-turners, it is what he does, and this is one of his early works. If you enjoy plot-driven thrillers, this is a great book. It is very good regardless, which is why I gave it four stars. I like a bit more character development and that is not Patterson's issue, everyone knows his schtick, he's sold more books than anyone. At least some of them he wrote.

Patterson is very good at plot twists and building to a feverish pace. Half way through this book you pretty much have to push through to the end. Alex Cross is a renowned literary character and this is his debut. I liked him, but also found him the stereotypical superhero street cop who tells his boss or the mayor or anyone in higher authority off every time he sees them. He comes nowhere close to cracking my top ten favorite literary characters.

You may love this book, or it may be good, and I'd say there's only a very small chance you find it isn't worth a read.
