I was not a fan of Ashton during the first book but I ended up liking his story even more than Trace and Jess. 4*
Audiobook
I've been patiently waiting for this second book to be released and it didn't disappoint! This was a great mafia romance, and what's even better is that the MFC, Molly, wasn't in the dark about mafia going ons. She even had her own little dark side to her, which complimented Ashton's (the MMC) own personality.
The spice was on point, and the narrators were amazing - which really helped make this audiobook read entertaining.

I love Ashton and Molly! The back and forth between the two was so fun! Molly is headstrong, quirky and will "switch" on you real quick! I loved seeing Trace and Jess as well. Such a great story!!

I'm so glad I read this immediately after "A Dirty Business" because I don't think I could have waited for answers. This is only the second book I've read from this author, and I really enjoyed what I read. These two stories that focused on the different characters were well written, even if some don't agree with me. They were a wonderful escape and guilty pleasure.

Sorry but this book wasn't it for me. The characters lacked depth and the story fell flat for me. I was confused af half the time as to what was actually going on. Maybe it's because I wasn't that hooked/interested from the start. Maybe it's because I hadn't read the first book and felt lost. Who knows? The premise seemed really interesting to me but unfortunately it didn't deliver. Regardless, the writing was pretty decent so yeah bonus points for that ig.

Tijan knows how to write a complex, twisted and chaotic mafia story! Ashton and Molly seemed to have more tension surrounding each of them than the couple from the previous book in the duet. A Cruel Arrangement was a very fast paced read and was easy to get through in a short period of time. The tension was so high for the majority of the book, that you just couldn't put it down! Tragedy and pain was around every corner. Molly was put in life threatening situations so many times, I wondered if she'd make it out alive by the end of the book! That poor woman! Ashton certainly seemed like a hardened bad guy on the surface, but as his story unraveled and his facade started to crack, I really started to enjoy his emotional and protective side. He knew he was a bad dude. He acknowledged that he did horribly things for a living. But he also knew that he had a heart to give the right person and he'd always protect them, no matter the cost.
The mafia aspect of the story got very convoluted at times and seemed like a twisted mess a lot of the time. Things became more clear near the end of the story and the author did a good job of explaning all the players and their roles. It's sometimes hard to keep families straight in these tropes because there are so many moving parts and characters to keep track of!
I didn't love the ending. I thought the "who done it" aspect didn't flow well with the rest of the story. It's hard to address this without giving anything away but I'll just say it didn't make sense why some characters did what they did. In the end, justice was served and that's all I truly cared about.

Thank you to NetGalley and Tijan for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review.
First things first, I did not read Kings of New York #1. Should I have? Probably. Maybe I wouldn't have picked this one up, or maybe I would've understood it more clearly.
This is told in a dual POV fashion by Ashton and Molly.
I'm not exactly sure what I should say, what I can say, or what I want to say. I always pick up books like this in the hope that I'm going to find a feeling different than I usually do, but it always ends up being this:
This book is way too long for the story that's told in it.
I think maybe it's the writing that isn't it for me? Maybe it's the timing? The pacing? Something about the way Tijan tells stories like this one, just don't hit right for me.
Also, don't get me started on the 'fuzzies' for Molly to Ashton, or this 'switch' that Molly has?
I'll be honest, I DNF'd this one about half way through and I just couldn't finish it.

Another great book by Tijan! I'm constantly surprised(thought I really shouldn't be) how Tijan manages to tackle a variety of different tropes within the Romance genre with such eloquence and is able to hook readers into immersive stories with characters you care about and want to read. I loved the Mafia elements of this story and am so excited to see what is next!
