I read A Cruel Arrangement and now I have my usual problem after reading Tijan’s books: book hangover! I had no idea how Ashton’s book would turn out, since he’s dark and likes to hurt people. But then the author made a brilliant move, she gave him Molly Easter, a girl who is flaky, kind, gutsy and caring.

Her thought processes are so foreign to Ashton that she kept him on his toes all the time, she very easily disobeyed his rules, had a perfectly logical (to her!) reason for doing so, and got spidey senses when there is something wrong and won’t back down from helping. She’s a wonderful person with a dark side (she calls it “the switch”) and completely perfect for Ashton. She broke through his defenses and obliterated the wall he had around his heart.

The book is fun, funny, steamy and as always, includes characters who are a delight, family to Molly. Pialto and Sophie love Molly like family, are completely loyal and are completely complicit in any mayhem she comes up with. Jess starts a little distant but comes closer as she sees how much Molly cares and looks out for her. I saw in this story that Jess has started to laugh and enjoy life, even with the weight of Kelly’s death on her.

Molly is magnificent, she truly has had an effect on everyone, and no wonder Ashton, who is like an icicle at the beginning, melts into goo with her, but only with her and only in private. I loved the scenes where he would carry her around because she was freaked out and only he could make her feel safe. He would say hop on and she would climb him like a monkey! I also loved how Molly was nosey and escapey. She would appear behind bushes, hiding in the stairs, behind a wall, eavesdropping and generally minding others’ business. And unrepentant too! She was a delight and I found her adorable.

And let’s not talk about her theory of their group: Trace is the thinker, Jess and Ashton are the doers and thus compete with one another, and she’s the go-between, the glue that keeps them together. “I’m like added sealant.”

Entertaining, riveting, multi-layered and fantastic! Now I don’t know how to leave this world of Tijan!

Didn’t like this one as much as the first one. It was the characters I think, I just didn’t like them that much. Not a great female lead for me. I can’t pinpoint why.

After the cliffhanger in the previous book I couldn’t wait to get the conclusion. But who would have known the chemistry between Molly and Ashton. These two were in such denial about their feelings for each other but they were so many obstacles. When they finally gave in it was just wow. Who would have thought that tough Ashton would have fallen so hard. They were so opposite but perfect for each other. Yes they were lots of secrets revealed but yet a great love story.

I loved this book so much Ashton was totally redeemed for me in this book and this was the perfect ending to the duet!

It wasn’t a bad read but book one was way better. Also Ashton’s character in this book was a whole lot more tamed. I’m guess it’s good character development wise and all but I think he should have been a bit more unhinged. The love story was nice too. Bit sad and predictable like most but still good. The smut was dry sadly. Took me longer than normal to finish

A Cruel Arrangement is the second book in Tijan’s The Kings of New York. Let me just tell you Ashton and Trace are the Kings of New York!! Whew. Hot Mafia Kings!

We learn in A Cruel Arrangement Ashton loves to be cruel. Becoming head of his family isn’t a hardship for him, he enjoys letting his dark side out.

Molly is one heck of a strong woman. She had been dealt a crap hand in life. She has a ‘switch’ in her where her darkness comes out. It matches Ashton’s.

Together, they can burn down the world around them and thrive in the heat. With their made family, they are unstoppable.

It was a read I couldn’t put down and answered so many questions from the first book!! Loved it.

Oh how I love this series. In this second installment of the Kings of New York, Ashton and Molly bring so many feeling to the book. She is light, happy and his sunshine. He is dark, handsome and in over his head with her. The two of them are so great together. All of the crap that they go through to finally have some sort of happy ending is worth sitting down with this book.
