Very compelling book, particularly for someone who works in the public service. I always enjoy Michael Lewis and his ability to turn dense topics into material that is easy to understand and incredibly enjoyable to read. Unfortunately, I felt like this book ended before he really had a chance to drive his point home, though that may be because of the timeframe he is writing about. I’d be interested in a follow up in a few years.

I enjoyed this but think in some ways it isn't the book I thought it would be.
Describing itself as a view of the 'botched transition of Trump administration' this is only a jumping off point. Its main focus is an examination of how the Trump administration are evicerating science, big data and the work of the American government in the name of ideology and money.
A disturbing read.

Amazing book that I read in 4 days flat. I found myself sad that it wasn’t longer. What I especially liked was the focus on what different aspects of the government do and the people it employees. I already had an appreciation for government due to working at the state level but this definitely expanded that appreciation

An important book about the important things the government does, and how the Trump Administration just doesn't care/is actively trying to break those things. If you like the idea of corporations selling you information you already paid for, or people who have no concern for citizens beyond the profits that can be milked out of said citizens taking charge of the various agencies that are supposed to protect those citizens, then you'll love the Trump administration. Still, Lewis' work contains a hefty dose of optimism around the people who are trying to keep things on track/improve things for ordinary citizens, and the uphill battle they face with the corrupt government officials who want to undermine the government they allegedly work in support of. A great and scary read.

Lord, this was good, but I really didn't need more reason to believe we're all on the express train to disaster. Already knew that.

Eh. This wasn’t what I thought it would be. I did learn a lot about some of the departments within federal government though so there’s that.

I thought this would just hate on Trump but it was actually a love letter to the unglamorous jobs of the Federal government. NOAA <3
