Sociopath

Patric Gagne

3.82 AVERAGE

At times “whoa” and “wow,” Gagne helps us get over our biases about this diagnosis. The author, not only informs about sociopathy, but also helps the reader identify and understand atypical patterns of thought and behavior. A must-read for those living and working with people similar traits.

It was very interesting and valuable to get into the head of someone who is such the complete polar opposite to me, and seeing sociopathy as a spectrum disorder is definitely an idea that I will continue to chew on.
That being said, I can't really say that this book was enjoyable as it was hard to like our narrator and I personally found it challenging to hear them justifying completely unacceptable behaviour. I also found the book very repetitive which I suppose probably does mirror the journey of someone who struggles with compulsions, but it is hard to see that any progress is made
especially when in the last chapter of the book when the author is supposedly all fixed now she brags about pushing a child over like that's a cool and funny thing to do and not completely reprehensible and actual abuse

I really enjoyed this read, which was refreshing since I typically struggle to like books with a psych aspect due to working in the field and seeing too many errors in the majority of books. This, however, was clearly written by a well educated professional, and the fact that they are so willing to share their diagnosis is very impressive. The only reason I didn’t rate this higher is that I felt some parts were pretty redundant, but overall this was an awesome read.
