A farmer is dead, but which one? Beth and Frank have been happily married for years, but when Gabriel and his son Leo move back to town, Beth is forced to remember the past. Beth’s son Bobby died in a tragic accident and her and Frank have not been the same since. Gabriel and Beth were each other’s first love and heartbreak. Beth begins looking after Leo so Gabriel can work on his newest novel, thus thrusting Beth and Gabriel into each other’s lives.
This book was interesting. I just didn’t connect with the book and I didn’t feel the feelings I think this book wanted me to feel. No tears were shed. There’s some twists at the end I didn’t see coming and some that I did. Told from dual timelines of the past and present.

What a tangled mess a life can be. Beth's actions at seventeen reverberate through her thirties. There are many layers in this story, all revealed slowly. And there is a big twist at the end, not expected but maybe should have been?
Overall, a good read. But, I found the author to be obviously manipulative. A good writer is more subtle. Of course authors will manipulate their readers. But this got annoying. The ending twist was a surprise because she blurred the timeline. The cause of Bobby's death soon became a tedious teaser. The book could have been better if these and other bits were crafted into the flow of the narrative better.

I just finished this and I don't have the words right now to express just how much I loved this book, just know that I will be thinking about it for a long time to come.
