Comforting. Particularly enjoyed her reflections on inclusion around the table, of struggling to come around to the idea that it's not just a place for people with unrestricted diets. Shauna has a lovely voice and the essays are great at reminding the reader that food goes beyond just providing an energy source for hungry tummies.

Loved this Sisteread for nonfiction November. Shauna’s stories about food and gathering with friends and family were beautiful. She shared her blessings and her struggles and how food and the act of gathering with those you love can be a powerful way to celebrate and heal. Discussions with my sister on this buddy read really made this book a great one. I’ll pick up more of this author’s work.

I enjoyed present over perfect, but this was not it for me. I was expecting it to be more about gathering, and what I gathered was an excessive amount of adjectives about food. The chapters were also in a strange order

Shauna is my favorite author of her particular genre. I love her. I love having people around my table just as she does. This book was lovely. Also, there are fantastic recipes in here. I've made a few. She taught me how to make my own salad dressing which is something I feel I'm late to the party on.

I really liked this book! It had some amazing stories of friendship, travel, motherhood, and of course, cooking! She's very good at telling stories and making you feel like you are there with her. My only complaint (which is minor) is that she tends to list things frequently. But I listened to it overall few days as an audiobook so it might be more noticeable that way. But I can't wait to try some of her recipes!

This was a book that felt like a reflection of me... cooking, faith, life. I am glad I took a chance and read it!

I love reading Shauna Niequist's writing. I feel like at times she writes in a voice that feels like my own. I loved how she included recipes with her stories, it made her book feel more immersive as I cooked through all the recipes. I think she sees food in a way that I also do. My favorite recipes were her bacon-wrapped dates, dark chocolate sea salted toffee, maple balsamic pork tenderloin, simplest dark chocolate mousse and Sullivan Street bread.
