I love reading Historical Romance novels. I have moments when all I want to is read that genre of books. Historical Romance just has this magic to it, and I love being swept away to a time long ago when people wore these beautiful clothes and a lot of men were chivalrous. Reading Historical Romance is definitely the perfect way to relax if you ask me. So when I found ‘The Duke Can Go to the Devil’ waiting for me to read, I just couldn’t resist and started reading as soon as possible. ‘The Duke Can Go to the Devil’ is the third book in the Prelude to a Kiss series, and can be read as a standalone.

In ‘The Duke Can Go to the Devil’ we meet May Bradford. May isn’t like your average young woman. May has grown up sailing the seas with her parents and visiting lots of different countries. Growing up traveling also means a lot of the ‘normal’ British etiquette is lost on her. So when May’s mother dies and her father leaves her with her aunt in Bath, May is definitely the odd one out. And May isn’t afraid to speak her mind. So when May meets the seemingly arrogant Duke of Radcliffe, William Spencer she isn’t afraid to tell him what she thinks of him. But what they both didn’t expect is the attraction that is immediate between them.

I loved May’s character. She was definitely unlike most woman you find in Historical Romance novels. May was honest, direct, funny and had some very different routines than most people in Bath. And I loved reading about her. May’s character definitely made me laugh a lot. And the chemistry between May and William was just perfect. You could almost feel it coming through the pages and because they were so different and both really stubborn they made for some very funny scenes.

I definitely loved reading ‘The Duke Can Go to the Devil’. I read this book in one setting, and it was just the perfect read to get me out of my reading slump. Although you definitely expect a certain ending to this kind of book, I loved the way I was still surprised by certain things.

And that cover from the Piatkus version of ‘The Duke Can Go to the Devil’ is definitely something I liked too. I love the black red combination and the way you instantly see which kind of genre this book is.

Do you ever listen to the opening notes of a song and automatically you can tell that you’re going to enjoy it? Erin Knightley’s #Preludetoakiss series is just like that!

The Duke Can Go To The Devil (Book 3) Finally it’s May Bradford’s turn at love. With a starchy, upright Duke and a wild child May this is a great enemy to friends story. Throughly enjoyed the dynamic between the Duke, his step mother, and his little siblings. 5/5

I have read an Erin Knightley novel before and only given it a mediocre review, but I am a sucker for a regency romance and so 'The Duke can go to the Devil' came home with me for a regency-reading.

I will start by saying that I did rather enjoy this novel. It was a bit sassy and I liked that William was an uptight Duke who could barely keep himself in check. Our leading couple reall did generate sparks and I loved their chemistry, it really came through on the page.

You guess what is coming... However

There was something formulaic about the plot and characters. I would agree that 'Regency Romance' as a genre is quite formulaic, but there was something more lacking with this novel.

For example, remove the covers of some regency romance novels and I would instantly be able to pluck out the Julia Quinn's and the Anne O'Briens. They have a style and a flair, they have a signature that is quintessentially them and I felt that this was the spark that was yet to ignite. This could have been the work of any number of Regency authors.

So, a good read, but sadly nothing more than that.

Dear reader,
This book will not disappoint. I have to tell you the more I read Erin Knightley's work, the more I love her. Each book she writes is pure gold. This recent addition to A Prelude to a Kiss series is great. The book is well written and keeps the reader interested the entire 300 some odd pages.

What makes this novel so good is May and Will hate each other at first. *SPOILER* William thinks May is attractive up until he hears the trio (Sophie, Chastity, and May) perform. Once Will hears the trio, as he terms it, butcher Mozart he is done. No he doesn't want to meet her! Of course as his friend Dering says he is a purist. What ensues after is May being herself and Will being dragged along for the ride, kicking and screaming the entire way.
Overall I give this book on the plot, dialogue, and characters a solid A++++++++
Each of Erin's books is amazing. I can't wait for Dering's book coming out in January 2016,
