A modern adaptation of Beowulf by ND Wilson? YES.
A wish his was a little longer, took a bit more time to unfold. Also I didn't believe that Charlie wouldn't have known his step-father had a brother who died, even if he didn't know the story about the snakebite. But I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to sharing it with my kids someday!

This was an awesome adventure. A lot of it was profoundly beautiful, and it made the whole story amazing and beautiful too.
I want the treehouse. Just saying.

I don't really understand what just happened.
JNBS: 36/100, or Super F.
This book was one of the most obscure things I have ever beheld (which is saying a lot), and not in a good way. I've heard of Wilson, but none of it was good. I was hoping this would change, but as aforementioned, it didn't.
At first I thought I was reading a cute/thought-provoking book about a kid finding new hope through football and a new family. But actually it had ghosts and monsters and death and maggots. Not really sure what happened. Don't think I ever will. The only thing keeping me going was that I wanted to say that I finished it first, and I did. I kind of regret it.
Overall, confusing and disappointing. Not worth the time, even if it was short.

I have been listening to N D Wilson's Ashtown Burials series so i thought i would like this too. At first it was very compelling; then it got a little weird but i kept reading to see what would happen. Still very weird -- realism with a touch of magic so not so real.
