Oh, boy, this book felt like a looong journey hahaha but it also made me appreciate the pioneers all over the world because that was a difficult life for sure.

Missie as a protagonist didn't captivated me as much as Marty did. Thus this one is my least favorite of the series so far.

See my review for "Love Comes Softly."

Books like this make you really appreciate the spirit and tenacity of the pioneers. It’s incredible the trials and tribulations that they willingly faced in the pursuit of bit of land and the promise of a future.

My favorite thing about these books is the simplicity. Sometimes that’s all you need.

Hallmark has made most of these books into movies that they show occasionally on their channel. I love the movies and thought that I would read the books. They are not tough reads. They are mildly preachy and have a Christian theme to them. If you are looking for Christian historical fiction this is a good bet.

Love's Long Journey by Janette Oke – Missy all grown up and embarking on a Western journey of her own like Marty did so long ago! Enjoy the journey! Happy Reading!

This series represents a white Christian fantasy world with very patriarchal ideas. It never touches on what the suffering that the settlers caused for the native population. It also never mentions stolen land. Although in this book we actually meet a Mexican character (who is white) who is treated as an equal to the English speaking white characters. Before characters of a different decent or ethnicity have been presented as infirior. (I can't believe I'm praising the author for doing the absolute minimum). The other improvement is that the hard ship the main character faces in her everyday activities is much more realistically described. Although the main character in the previous books also went through a lot, she (since moving in with her new husband) had everything from a nice house, food, clean water and friends. Missie on the other hand still has to create a home.
I won't judge anyone for reading this type of book (it's easy to read and not very deep), but I hope that you keep the real oftentimes horrible history in mind.
