I thought it was interesting to read a memoir (that's what I'm classifying it as anyway) set in my neighborhood that deals with the racist past and present of where I'm living. It was a tough read throughout, and not just because it deals with the aforementioned racism of NE Portland, but because of the choices that are made by the various 'characters', often without any explanation or justification for why they did what they did.

Interesting personal stories that were more compellingly told in the novelization, Residue Years.
