I didn't know what to expect from this, I had read others reviews and it sounded a good read. Wow, what a fantastic read, I thoroughly enjoyed it and completely ate it up, it flowed really well and before I know it I was through the book.
It is a crime from start to finish from the killer's point of view, the build up, the crime, being on the run and subsequent capture and trial. It is very disturbing how calm, casual and rational the narrator is. Treating it as someone writing about their day to day activities.
I enjoyed it in any case and would be interested in reading more along the same line,a very nice change to the usual detective/murder mystery ficiton.

The main character is a terrible person but that makes it an interesting read. Very well written and the pacing is great.

Kitap kötü. Bir özelliği yok, ciddi bir öyküsü yok, güçlükle okunuyor. Kurgu iyi değil, anlatım iyi değil, ilgi çekici değil. Vardığı nokta, yani bir katilin ve cinayetin dolaylı olarak toplum tarafından oluşturulması noktası, bende beklenen sarsıcı etkiyi yapmadı, çünkü bunun zaten pek çok durumda böyle olduğunun herkesçe bilindiğine inanıyordum.
Ama çeviri de en az kitap denli sorunlu. İlk kez Çince yazılmış bir kitap okuyorum yanılmıyorsam. Giray Fidan sanırım kurgu çevirmeni değil, dolayısıyla da bir yazınsal metnin Türkçede nasıl canlandırılacağını çok bilememiş. İyi bir akademisyen olduğu söyleniyor, işin bu boyutuna eğilmek istemem. Ama çeviri demek bir metnin ne demek istediğini Türkçe anlatmak demek değildir, metnin Türkçede yeniden yaratılmasıdır. Kitabın Türkçe dili basit, özelliksiz, kopuk, kısacası iyi değil. Daha iyi bir çeviri kitabı en azından okunur kılabilirdi.

The first few chapters got me invested but then I got really bored. This is very similar to the plot of The Outsider (or the stranger) by Albert Camus.
The writing was mediocre and the main character had no depth until the final chapter where I felt the story was actually going somewhere.

Sicuramente un romanzo sgradevole da leggere. Passiamo circa 100 pagine nella testa di un assassino spietato, che pianifica e porta a termine l'omicidio di un'innocente per motivi di fatto poco chiari anche a lui. Chiaramente lo scopo del romanzo è far riflettere sulla società cinese contemporanea (anche se penso che molto di quello che vuole dire sia applicabile alla maggior parte dei Paesi industrializzati).
Credo che il libro riesca piuttosto bene nel suo intento ma, forse per la sensazione di disgusto che mi ha accompagnata durante la lettura, non riesco a dargli più di 3 stelle.
Nota sull'edizione. In realtà ho ascoltato l'audiolibro, che su GR non è segnato. Qualcuno avrebbe dovuto fornire un glossario delle pronunce al narratore. Non c'è motivo, nel 2022, di pronunciare nomi stranieri in modo tanto sbagliato.

I just need to resign myself to the fact that no one will do "Follow the main character, someone who murders someone(s) due to a bit of an existential crises, and then their philosophical journey after committing these horrid events" as well as Dostoevsky does in Crime and Punishment (my absolute favorite book). Every time I read a plot like this since reading Crime and Punishment it reads as incredible forced and trying too hard. I know better now.
