Finally picked this up to step back into the world of the faithful and fallen. It is wonderful to visit this world again. The way Gwynne writes the different perspectives is great. I enjoy his characters. It is a slow start to build the new characters and introduce the world.
Having read the previous series it was good to see how the world works in the "present" days. It also is done well enough that the previous series doesn't have to be read to enjoy this book. Yet, I would recommend that because it is amazing and also gives a deep dive into the histories for these books.
I'm not even sure I can pick out a favorite character and I didn't feel any of them were not enjoyable to read about. The depths of the characters and the different viewpoints within the world were great.
