This book dragged on finally got good the last five or four chapters but those chapters make me continue on to Ruin and Rising to see how Alina's story ends, if it does...

this book could've easily been 150 pages shorter, but it was enjoyable nonetheless (definitely the worst grishaverse book tho). anyways, praise nikolai lantsov for clear skin

I liked this a lot better than the first book, but not enough to give it four stars. I really like the story and I feel like it has a lot of potential, but it’s just not delving as deep as I would like it to. I’m starting to like and understand the characters more, and I’m curious to see what happens.

DID NOT FINISH: 37%

Found this a good story but a little too YA for my taste. The characters feel childish and Alina is whiney and fickle, one minute unsure whether her poor little scrawny orphan self is meant to be powerful, the next asking for control of the army and wanting her boyfriend to hunt down the last magical creature she needs to be the most powerful grisha ever. i just couldn't.

I give it a 3.5
For some reason I just had a difficult time actually wanting to finish the book. The last 1/4 of the book is really what got me through. Don’t get me wrong the details and drama were there, but I wasn’t in a rush to finish bc I found myself having to trudge through the parts that were in between the juicy parts.
