I loved the plot of this book, however, I’m only giving it 4 stars because it took me so long to get into. The beginning of the book was so slow-paced and idk it just took me forever to actually read it. Now that I’m finished, I really like the plot overall better than the first one.
The characters in this book? *chefs kiss* I LOVE the Alina in Siege and Storm. Her character is both funnier and connected with me more. In the first one she was skinny, helpless, sad Alina where now she is strong-headed, sarcastic, and just amazing.
Nikolai is becoming a favorite of mine. I like his humor and wit. Mal as a character reminds me of Gale, and I can’t tell if it’s in a good or bad way. The twins are so loyal it makes me think about my twin sister and how we act.
Solid 4/5, would be 5/5 if it had hooked me better.

This took the entire month. Overall, J didn’t vehemently hate it but I don’t love it. Alina and Mal, both as a couple and individually, are tiresome and repetitive. I’m disappointed that the Darkling wasn’t in this more, but I’m thankful for Nikolai’s presence. The inner monologue and conflict is recycled constantly— “I’m the sun summoner, but I wish I weren’t, but I’m glad I am, but am I corrupt?, but do I like it?, but Mal, but the Darkling, and repeat. It was mostly drawn out and boring, but picked up the last couple chapters. Lowkey this needs multiple POVS.
side note: by now, shouldn’t we at least know why there’s only one sun summoner? this is an oddly long time to have no history or backstory.

Después de la gran decepción que fue Shadow and Bone le tenía un poquito de miedo a este, y qué suerte que entré con las expectativas bajas porque aaaaaaa me sorprendí un montón. Los personajes ya no son tan insoportables, la historia es mucho más interesante y fluida, aparece Nikolai for the first time (hey babe, I missed you since CK). So nada, me gustó muchísimo y ya quiero escuchar el tercero ay.

Definitivamente hubo una mejora en cuanto al primer libro, aunque todavía hay un par de cosas como que no me terminan de cuadrar. La historia avanzó rápido y había muchas cosas más de las cuales estar al tanto, lo cual fue bueno.
Me encantó la introducción de los nuevos personajes (Nikolai sobre todo), aunque igual que Alina, siempre andaba con el pendiente de en qué momento alguien la iba a traicionar porque después de lo del primer libro una ya no sabe en quién confiar.

Una de las cosas que más me choca de la historia es lo aferrada que Alina está con mal, amiga pls date cuenta, tqmm.
Y sí, desde que introdujo a Nikolai sabía que le iba a agarrar cariño. Es mi tipo de cliché fav, espero que sí esté bien y pueda desarrollar su relación con Alina el el último libro.
