so this may be a controversial opinion but I am not a fan of leigh bardugo's writing. I find it very hard to get through and I get bored very easily.
In particular, this book was very tedious and it honestly felt like a chore to read. Not much happened throughout that was interesting, but right at the end there were a couple of pages that were evidently very important and had the most action out of the whole book, but I didn't even realise that until the book was over because it was over so quickly and so inadequately described and fleshed out that I didn't even notice it.
I also don't like any of the characters whatsoever, apart from Nikolai - who was the reason why I gave this book 4 stars. However, like with much of the plot and other characters, Nikolai didn't seem very original - I've read so many variations of him in other books, so I really feel like more could have been done to make him interesting.
so I will be reading the third one, mainly because I want to watch the Shadow and Bone tv show when it comes out, but I don't think I can guarantee that I will like it.

An excellent continuation of the story, building up on what was started and also paving the way for the final book. Bard UGI is clearly not afraid of killing of characters, which is nice. I once again got sucked into her world.

I loved this book a lot more than the first one! Nikolai might be my new favorite character and Alina is SOOOOO annoying. I know she's supposed to be the main character of the book and I get that girl is going through everything but she's so UNLIKEABLE.

Easy read and flew through it. Did not find myself connecting with the main characters as much in this book but enjoyed some of the side characters. Introduces some interesting themes around growing power but doesn’t always follow through with them as well as she could. While the new threat and the ending were interesting mostly relied on the world and magic that were already established in book one.
