I enjoyed this enough to continue the series. Vhalla is a likable but frustrating character, as she can sometimes be too obtuse for words. Like, everything seems to sail over her head and she made some decisions that just had me heavily rolling my eyes. The premise is interesting, the romance is EXTREMELY slow burn, and the world building gives me Avatar: The Last Airbender vibes. It gives me those vibes for other reasons as well, but I won’t give spoilers. The pacing was also off, and some portions just dragged, before it ended completely without warning. But it wasn’t terrible, and I’m intrigued as to where it could go.

I went into this book with high expectations, due to the hype of the reviews here and Tiktok. I was kind of let down. First off, the book definitely needed to go through another round of editing. Or two. Second, there really wasn’t a whole lot of plot to this book and we weren’t really given a ton of information in terms of world-building. This is one of those cases where the book needs more detail (and I’m one that usually gets frustrated when authors go into too much detail about every little thing). However, I can see potential and I’m pretty sure this is the authors debut novel so I can give some grace and I still want to continue the series! I’m invested in the main love interest and I thought the budding romance between Vhalla and Andrik was sweet. I hope the plot and writing can pick up a bit more in book 2!

This book has literally been sitting on my shelf for 2 years and I never picked it up because I completely forgot about it. The pacing is great, not super invested in the characters yet but I do plan to read the rest of this series!
