War is business. Business is war

I love the setting took in Malaya before the independence and right after Japan surrender after war.

Even The Garden of Evening Mists is historical fiction story, but, I'm glad the writer write in proper way.

The protagonist, Teoh Yun Ling suffers in a Japanese camp and then she become an apprentice with Emperor of Japan's gardener, Aritomo.

The complex journey and the confrontation between British, Japan, communist (terrorist), Malay and Chinese people hits me.

Super happy that I can immersed in Yugiri (the garden).

Would love to rate 4 and half stars.

DID NOT FINISH: 68%

Began well but meandered too much with no resolve on the horizon. Wasn’t invested enough in the characters to push through. Beautiful vivid descriptions of Malaysian jungle though.
