I think that at its most fundamental level, like if you outlined the story in a barebones manner it is pretty compelling. I also appreciate the determinism conversations underlying the major plot points. Gave me a lot to chew on.

Ultimately the characters and relationships were not well flushed out and were convoluted. Still don’t quite understand the point of some of the side stories.

Nicely written, but the plot became a bit over the top, convoluted and predictable. I got this book as part of the Crime Freaks Book Subscription and loved the themed gifts, making it more enjoyable to read.

I really loved this book. It was hard for me to put down and I have no doubt that I will read it again, as I have done with his two previous books. Not sure what it is about Alex North’s writing, but it ticks all the boxes for me.

This was unfortunately not my favourite book by Alex North. I’m usually good for alternating pov’s and timelines but this was all over the place. For the majority of the book I couldn’t quite get a grip on the characters aside from Katie. And then the ending. So many unanswered questions. Too many things left vague!

*NetGalley review*

This was my first Alex North book and I've heard such great things, but I was disappointed with The Angel Maker. There was too much going on and too many characters to keep track of as well as too many events and what I think was meant to be twists. I'm still not totally sure what Michael Hyde's purpose was overall in the story; it seemed like an unnecessary addition. While it did pick up the speed at about the 60% mark, I had a hard time keeping everything straight and often had to go back to the character's previous chapter to see what was going on. There was a lot of family drama in this one and I'm glad most of it was resolved, but this one fell short for me. Thank you to NetGalley, Alex North, and MacMillan Audio for the chance to listen to this one in exchange for an honest review.
