It was an exciting thriller of a story. I was expecting a few parts but not others.

I loved The Whisper Man but I’ve liked each subsequent release a little less. I’m not even sure what to say about this one. 2.5 stars, rounded up. I had to force myself to read it and it was just so convoluted. There were some good mystery elements here - I just don’t think I liked how he got there. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Enjoyable and kept me curious to the end.

While I had a lukewarm opinion of The Shadow Friend/The Shadows by the same author, I found this to be a riveting, edge-of-your seat read. The suspense very well executed and the themes - toeing the supernatural line - occasionally made it almost veer into horro-thriller territory. The emotional turmoil of the characters, particularly in Katie's storyline, was surprisingly impactful for a novel that's more plot-driven than character-driven. The ambiguity of the ending, which is hard to execute in my opinion, added a unique touch.

For fans of cult narratives, and those who don't mind asking themselves 'how much can we will into existence?'

There was a LOT of suspense and foreshadowing in this one, with a philosophy centered plot line. If you're a fan of The Sinner season 3, you will probably really enjoy this book. I will say that I did have to really pay attention while reading with all the twists and turns. Overall, this was a pretty fun read, can't wait for what's next from Alex North!

Alex North you genius!!! This is his most complicated one yet. I loved it. So many twists and turns. The only thing I did not like was the detective. His character was a bit of. Other than that, genius!!

I think I need to give up on audiobooks in this genre because I do just start missing things. Alex North is so good at CREEPY, spooky stories. Also, there were a lot of red herrings here that made the story super fun. I wasn't quite as hooked as his first two books, but still good!
