I personally enjoy Alex North books. I enjoy the small tibit connecting all books put still stand alones. This book was paced well and the reveal was good and overall just a fun time. I found myself confused at some point but caught on quick due to multiple point of views but being used to Norths work that was expected. It was a fun read and nothing more or less.
Okay as far as thrillers goes but it was a plotty mess. Kind of all over the place.
This book was chosen for me by a librarian who was given the criteria of gruesome true crime and creepy horror. I wasn't allowed to read the synopsis, so I went into it blind and I found that I really enjoyed it!
The writing was well done and easy to follow, descriptive but not in a way that was overdone or seemed excessive. I was drawn into the story in the prologue when it refers to what was done to Chris and decided that, yes, this was a good choice.
The book wasn't overly gory, only covering a couple of deaths, and it definitely went in a direction I wasn't quite expecting, though, again, I didn't read the synopsis. It has a supernatural vibe, which I love, and all of the stories come together in the end feeling well woven. It's one of those books where you can look back and have various aha moments.
Back to the writing, I really enjoyed the way the author repeated thoughts and phrases in italics. It drove the lines home and brought attention to them.
The only reason I'm giving this 4 ☆ rather than 5 ☆ is because I didn't LOVE the ending. While things are tied up, I feel like more light could have been shone on what happened after, and additional explanations could have been given when it came to the supernatural bits.
All said it was a really good read, and I'd definitely recommend it!

'S alright. As a "you wouldn't believe how they're all connected" kind of mystery book, I was engaged, but it didn't rock me the way Whisper Man did.
Thank you to Alex North, Celadon Books, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This plot was good in theory, however the execution is the reasoning for my rating. Normally, I enjoy multiple POVs but the transitions to other POVs was not well done. It felt chopping and the pacing between the three was not exactly the same which made it harder to want to continue reading. It broke up anytime I felt like I was on a streak and added to the slow pacing of the book. The twist was pretty predictable as well. Additionally, I wish I had looked for trigger warnings, I found some of the subject matter especially in relation to small children, disturbing and that took away from the story for me too. Overall, the story had promise but fell a little flat for me personally.

I appreciate the delivery but the plot got a bit convoluted about 2/3 of the way through and somehow simultaneously sped up and lost value.
I was really excited about this one, I absolutely loved The Whisper Man and Shadow Friend but unfortunately this wasn't it for me.
I didn't hate it, but I didn't connect with any of the characters (though I'm not sure I was meant to) and I found the plot a little too complex. Full disclosure I've been really tired while I read this but it took me to at least half way through, if not three quarters before I wrapped my head around who was who in some instances.
There were some great twists though, and it is well written but it was just a bit slow paced for me.
