I always enjoy Alex North’s books. This one had some good connections and twists, and it did leave me with some questions at the end, but I don’t think it necessarily needed to be answered, but I would have appreciated it.

Thank you NetGalley for the audiobook to review. There are so many characters I couldn’t keep people straight. I kept listening, trying to understand the storyline but ultimately I was very confused. I think this novel would be better if I read the physical copy.

Alex North is slowly cementing himself as an author I enjoy. I really like my thrillers to be more crime/detective elements, and The Angel Maker didn't disappoint. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put it down. With a pretty satisfying ending, this next published work solidifies North as a master storyteller.

Thank you to Celadon Books for this ARC and ALC. I ended up listening to this one on audio. Unfortunately, it was a miss for me. I was so excited to get my hands on this one & I had such high hopes. It wasn’t there. I’m not sure if I would’ve enjoyed it more reading the book. It was very very eerie and spooky. I could picture this being a movie…that I wouldn’t watch. I am not a fan of super scary. If you’re into top-notch scary, eerily real stories, this is for you! The narrator did well & Alex North did an amazing job at describing the scenes to make me feel like I was there. Don’t knock this book til you try it!

I loved Alex North's previous books, but I didn't enjoy this one as much. It was a bit confusing jumping around with characters who had multiple names, and once I figured out who everyone was the story was only okay.

Alex North writes the BEST scary stories. I received an ARC of the audiobook version of this one, so that fact may affect some of my review. I have a hard time getting into it, mostly because I was so so confused right away. There were so many different tangents that didn't seem possible would tie together. There were lots of jumps between setting and time. If I were to have read this as a physical book, I feel it would have helped me be able to go back and reread things, but since I listened as an audiobook, I felt lost. Despite this, once I figured everything out, I absolutely loved this one. Not quite as good as the Whisper Man, but better than The Shadows. My recommendation is to read this one, preferably during spooky season, and push through the confusion, because it's worth it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Celadon Books for the ARC.

The Angel Maker is a thriller with several timelines and characters that are somehow all related. Katie Smith is devastated when her brother, Chris, becomes a victim of a crime and blames herself for not being around to protect him. Alan Hobbs, a philosophy professor, is found murdered shortly after letting his staff members go. Without providing too much information to give things way, detectives are trying to connect the two crimes and determine how a serial killer is able to predict the future.

This was the third book I’ve read by Alex North and unfortunately it’s my least favorite of his. The biggest issue I had with this book was the amount of concentration it required to follow along. I didn’t even try to piece together the puzzle due to its complexity. I felt as though there were too many characters and stories to follow. I was definitely hooked on trying to figure out how the crimes were connected but it took until halfway through for me to feel fully invested. As the story came to an end, I was satisfied to have all the answers.
