The Angel Maker was not as good as The Whisper Man or The Shadows but my goodness, those TWISTS AND TURNS were fantastic.

For readers who loves:
•Alex North’s writing (like me)
•police procedurals
•creepy vibes

Meh. Too many time jumps, too many things left unresolved, hard to keep track of who is who and who is doing what and why and when.

I really enjoyed The Whisper Man & The Shadows by Alex North, so I was stoked to pick up The Angel Maker. Alas, this one was a miss for me.

My chief complaint is that the story was quite convoluted. We follow a lot of characters, numerous cases, and intertwining timelines. Things get mucked up pretty quick. Like, I'm not sure I could describe what this was about in a concise manner. I think the story could have benefitted from further development of characters in place of some of the plot elements.

At the end of the book, there were things I felt went unaddressed, and I didn't get the feeling of everything being wrapped up. Maybe some of this just went over my head, but I was left confused at the end. There was also a supernatural element kind of randomly inserted into this that was never really explored or developed much.

In conclusion, I'm still confused lol

Thank you to Celadon Books and Netgalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was too disjointed for me as an audiobook. I may try again and read rather than listen.

I don’t like religious horror/thrillers.

Doesn’t mean the book is bad, it’s just a me thing. I know this book has supernatural elements as well but I’ve experienced real life religious horror/ thrillers and every time i encounter it in a book it brings back all those horrible memories so yeah this was not for me.

I think I can say I have a complicated relationship with Alex North’s books. I loved The Whisper Man, dnfed his second release and was mostly bored and uncomfortable and a bit confused with this one. I kept wishing for it to just end already. I hope the next book I read from this author will be another favorite like the Whisper Man.
