3.5 stars (when will Good Reads let us do that!?). I was a bit distracted as I listened and got rather confused (no fault of the author), but that probably contributed to my rating.

I continue to be amazed at Alex North and is innate ability to take multiple storylines, multiple timelines and somehow weave them all perfectly together. This story was absolutely no exception. There were times I truly wondered how he would do it, but then by the end it flowed perfectly and all came together the way it was always meant to be.

This plot is complex. There are layers upon layers and a large cast of characters that it is easy to feel lost in the beginning; however, if you stick with it North creates the perfect landscape that brings it all together. North is able to keep brining completely original ideas to the table with each novel that leaves his readers hungry for the next thrill. The Whisper Man stays true to this norm!

Special thanks to Celadon Books for the advanced copy of this book. Expected publication is February 23, 2023!

3.5 ⭐️

I wish I had read the physical copy of this one because there are so many important, intertwining points of view! I think my star rating would have been higher for sure.

I really enjoyed this one- it was creepy, serial killer-y and suspenseful. The story lines are all important despite not fully knowing what is going on at first- BUT they all start to come together beautifully by like last 30% of the book. It kept me guessing and trying to figure out what was going to happen until the very end! Thank you Net Galley for the advanced copy of this audio! This one is going to be a hit when it hits the shelves on February 28!

i had suuuuper high expectations for this one…. and it did not disappoint. i’ve loved every book by alex north so far and so getting to not only read a new one but read it months before release is incredible and i’m very grateful. plot twist king, finished it in a day.

Alex North does it again. He starts off with different stories, different beginnings, different timelines and then in the end they all come together to blow your mind. Great read. I could not put it down.

Alex North has done it again!

Perhaps more puzzling and atmospheric than his other works, 'The Angel Maker' takes on family trauma, dark secrets, and several character arcs and plot lines that masterfully intersect in a chilling suspenseful finale you won't want to miss!

Detective Laurence Page is called to the scene of a murder which will kick off a grand scale multi-generation puzzle where nobody is safe.
Katie Shaw has a complicated family relationship, which is made all the more complex with the emergence of ghosts from her past and the disappearance of her troubled brother- Christopher- who finds himself involved in the investigation of the brutal murder Page is investigating.

This novel has one of the larger casts of a book I've read in recent memory, and there was a bit of a remembering curve at the beginning. Once you can keep track of who's who and when we're in the past or present, the novel soars. North has such a great hold of the genre.

What I admire most about North's brand of horror is the ability to make the mundane suddenly terrifying. A quiet evening looking out the window can suddenly turn into a night of terror that will have your heart racing and your stomach in knots. He does this in his other works, but it is most admirable and effective in 'The Angel Maker.'

Overall the book is a strong showing, fear, suspense, and heart all come together to make a book you just can't put down (or stop listening to.)

Rosalie Craig- who narrates the audiobook- is a masterful narrator. She has an incredible grasp on the material and lends her theatrical background giving each character a unique voice (literally) and a specific cadence of speech which really helps differentiate who is speaking.

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Celadon Books, and Alex North for an ARC of this book in audiobook format. All opinions are my own. Publication date: February 28, 2023.

Wow, this mystery had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! The plot was so intricate and complex that I could hardly keep up with all the twists and turns. Sure, it was a bit challenging to keep track of all the different characters since it was told from multiple points of view, but that was part of the fun! I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator was so engaging that I could barely put it down (or turn it off, rather).

However, there were some time jumps that confused me, and I might need to reread the physical copy to fully understand the connections. But even with these minor bumps in the road, the mystery was top-notch, and the suspense had me biting my nails with anticipation. And although I predicted the ending correctly, that didn't stop me from enjoying the excellent storytelling and intricate character development.

In fact, the plot was so complex that I'm still trying to unravel how it's all connected days after finishing the book! It's a true mark of an outstanding read when it lingers in your mind long after you've put it down. And let me tell you, any book that can do that is an instant favorite of mine!

So confusing…loved Alex North’s two previous books, this was disappointing. No wonder I haven’t seen much press about it.
