The writing wasn't bad, but the story was, I don't know, but "gross" is the first thing that comes to mind.  If the big reveal was supposed to be shocking, it wasn't.  It gets 2 stars (rather than 1) because I do like the way memory/perception was written and how things came into focus for the characters.

If I read more than 50 pages in a sitting, I enjoyed it much more. Overall though, it was kind of strange and only moderately enjoyable.

Absolutely beathtaking. An incredibly well-written story that will shake you to your core and leave you thinking about it for a long time after. Amazingly relatable and organic characters and a horrifying and gripping story that hits close to home for way too many of us.

One of the best books I've read in a while. I love books that follow a family's history and secrets (the namesake, Middlesex, anything by Kaled Hosseini), so this right up my alley. Couldn't put it down for the last 350 pages or so. Also loved there was a dash of the supernatural and religious obsession.
