I really hated the first book in this series, so I am glad that I continued on to read this one. Definitely much better in my opinion, I wasn't cringing and rolling my eyes the whole time.

Though still not a fan of our main character, the surrounding characters were more interesting (and less cringey) than book one.

I have to note- why did SJM have to use the term "puking your guts up" so many times?? There is a lot of mention of vomit but it is always using that term. Not relevant to the plot but so frequent that I had to bring it up.

This book—wow. Why did it take me so long to finish it?! This was really a rollercoaster of emotions and I was certainly not prepared for what was coming. It was written so freaking well! It was so, so good. Love, hate, everything. I wanted to trash the book (not really, love this baby) because SJM wrote it so well. Could you get through all the stages of happiness and grief in a minute. It's a ride, but it's definitely worth it. When you finished the first book, don't let it take too long to finish the second becauze I regret that part. Good thing though: I started my year and finished January with a really good book. I'm still utterly shocked that I don't know what to say except for that it was so good. And I will repeat that.

the book was long. 634 pages of me wanting to dnf it at 50%. and for every 10% that it progressed after. but I pushed through because I was expecting more from this one. because I used to love sj maas’ writing so much from her throne of glass series.

in the end, I can say that maas’ world building and plot twists never missed. she’s still as witty, badass, and good in her craft. she knows fantasy best and can sprinkle just the right amount of romance to spice it up.

I fell in love with rhysand in this one. with velaris and its people. the inner circle. family. home. feyre as well, okay. I’ve loathed her in the first book but she improved a lot in this sequel. so many plot twists had been untwisted. so many clues with not enough answers.

I found myself immersed then yawning then swooning then…laughing. I didn’t expect I’d find the king of hybern to be funny, like your uncle who just can’t stop his unsolicited comments. rhysand, I love him. so cunning and smart and beautiful. nesta, for the finger you lifted before all hell break loose, you’re a queen and deserved a throne.

all in all, it was a better book than the last one. enough to make you feel the spice (chapters 54-56 ;), adventures, be lost in a beautiful city, and maybe a little bit of rage. it was a fun ride. if not for its very long pages.

The first third of the book is incredibly slow, but once the pace picks up it really picks up. I've always found the main character of this series hard to swallow, but this book did a great job breaking down her trauma. Exploring the trauma of the other characters was also very well done.
