Welcome to the Diversishelf Book Club! We're thrilled to announce the second session of our Nonfiction Book Club. Our August selection is "Are Prisons Obsolete?" by Angela Y. Davis. This book is a powerful critique of the prison industrial complex, challenging entrenched systems of incarceration and offering profound insights into envisioning a future beyond punitive justice.
At Diversishelf, we believe that reading is political and an act of resistance. Our book club is designed to engage our community in deep, meaningful discussions that align with our core values: Anti-ableism, Anti-racism & white supremacy, Anti-queerphobia & transphobia, Anti-misogyny & patriarchy, Anti-colonialism, Anti-monosexism, heterosexism, & cisgenderism, Pro-survivor & anti-abuse, Anti-capitalism, Harm reduction & trauma-informed responses, and Abolition & transformative justice.
How It Works
We will read approximately 35 pages of "Are Prisons Obsolete" each week, with readings due every Saturday. To facilitate ongoing discussion and reflection, we’ve chosen StoryGraph as our platform. Here, you’ll find sub-forums dedicated to each chapter, where you can share your thoughts and engage with other members' comments.
