🐻 the spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus) – let’s read a book by a South American author
Just one bear species lives in South America. The spectacled bear inhabits the tropical Andes from Venezuela to Northern Argentina, passing through Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. Some experts think that the largest population of this bear is in the border area of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The spectacled bear is endangered, with only 6,000 to 10,000 individuals left in the Northern Andes (not counting most of Peru, Bolivia and northern Argentina).
Please try to find an author that was born and has grown up in a south American country, or was back there as an adult. Preferable from one of the countries where you can find the bear, but any south American writer counts.

🧸️ About the spectacled bear: The habitat of the spectacled bear is threatened by human activities such as mining, pollution, and the cultivation of coca for illicit drug production. These factors have caused the fragmentation of the spectacled bear populations. The Maquipucuna Cloud Forest Reserve & Ecolodge, a two-hour drive from Quito, is one of the best spots to observe Andean bears, which have the highest density in Ecuador. Other locations where these bears can be sighted are the Cayambe Coca Ecological Reserve and the Pimampiro viewpoint. SouthWild, a travel agency, guarantees a 30-50% chance of encountering this bear throughout the year.
