🐼 the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) – pandas are associated with China, so let’s read a Chinese book.
The giant panda used to live in many parts of China, Vietnam and Myanmar (Burma). Now they only live in the mountains of some provinces in southwest China. Most of them are in Sichuan Province, but some are also in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. They live near the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau. China also requires that any panda cubs born abroad must go back to China. This makes pandas seem like they are China's exclusive property, and only friendly countries can borrow them. This can help the country to improve its image abroad. It is hard for a government to communicate with the people of another country, especially if it wants to change how they think about it. China values the panda highly, and it symbolizes peace. In the past, when tribes were in conflict, they would display a panda picture to declare a ceasefire.
As a rule, please chose a writer born and raised in China, in order to experiment the cultural impact of the Chinese society. Is ok if has left China as an adult.

🧸️ About the giant panda: Pandas have a long history of being revered and admired by humans. They were buried with royalty, such as the Empress Dowager Bo, and given as gifts to foreign countries, such as Japan by Emperor Taizong's grandson. Pandas were not used for medicine very often in Ancient China, except for some tribal people who believed their urine could dissolve needles and their fur could regulate menstruation. These beliefs are recorded in the ancient encyclopedia Erya. Some ancient books also mention a creature called mo (貘), which resembles a panda. It is black-and-yellow and lives in Sichuan. Another creature, pixiu (貔貅), is sometimes thought to be a panda. It is a mythical beast that only shows up when a good and honest ruler is in power. It is like a white tiger with black spots, but it is gentle and eats only plants. The Yongle Emperor received a zouyu (騶虞) from his relative in Kaifeng, and another one was seen in Shandong. Some scholars wonder if the zouyu was actually a panda.
