Bear species challenge šŸ» - hosted by ancaciochina

šŸ» the Asiatic black bear, also known as moon bear (selenarctos thibetanus) ā€“ let's read overlooked Asian literature or stories/narratives from a country that is not stereotypically though about when Asia is mentioned.
Usually when people think about bears and Asia they think about pandas, ignoring the black Asian bear, but he is there, present in the Asian culture.
Try to avoid popular Asian genres (like manga, magical realism, mythology, historical fiction) and maybe try to avoid countries like Japan or South Korea, as their literature already has a great exposure. Also, if you manage, try to match the genre with the country ā€“ like, not a manga from Japan, but maybe you can manage to read some graphic novel from Qatar.
The Asian black bear used to live in Western Europe, according to fossils. Now it only lives in some parts of Asia. It lives from Iran to Southeast Asia, but not in Malaysia. It is not common in China. It also lives in Russia, North Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Hainan. A few still live in South Korea. Any of these countries, as well as any other Asian country, counts.

šŸ“š Suggestions of books / authors:Ā
Ā·Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Iranian memories are quite common, but not many are in the graphic form, so ā€œThe Persepolisā€ by Marjane Satrapi might fit this promptĀ
Ā·Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Have you ever tried Saudi chick-lit? ā€œRiad Girlsā€ by Rajaa al-Sanea might be a nice optionĀ
Ā·Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā North Korean literature is almost inaccessible, so if you manage to get any Bindi book would be a good optionĀ
Ā·Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Vandana Singh is one of the first Indian woman to write SF, if you want to give her a tryĀ
