Bear species challenge 🐻 - hosted by ancaciochina

·ᴥ· the polar bear (Ursus maritimus) – let’s read a book over 500 pages.
The polar bear is not just the biggest bear species but also the biggest land carnivore in the world.
If you feel special, make it over 1000 pages, this bear is large enough for it. Polar bears are the largest land predators, with males reaching up to 682 kg and females being half as big. They mainly eat seals, but sometimes hunt small walruses or whales. They rarely eat plants, such as berries, in the summer. They are well adapted to the arctic environment. Their white fur blends in with the snow and ice, but also lets sunlight reach their black skin. Their paws are like paddles, with hair between the pads, for swimming, digging snow, and walking on ice. Their thick fur keeps them warm in the cold.
* Please keep in mind that audiobooks count too, as long as the physical book is over 500 pages.

🧸️ About the polar bear: The Arctic and nearby regions are home to polar bears. They live in places like Greenland, Canada, Alaska, Russia and Norway's Svalbard Archipelago. Some polar bears have been seen 25 km away from the North Pole. The farthest south they go are James Bay and Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada and St. Matthew Island and the Pribilof Islands of Alaska. Iceland does not have polar bears, but sometimes they visit by crossing the sea ice. Polar bears still occupy most of their original habitat, unlike many other large land predators, because humans rarely disturb them.
