Bear species challenge 🐻 - hosted by ancaciochina

🐻 the Asiatic black bear, also known as moon bear (selenarctos thibetanus) – you can find the moon bear in indian mythology as Jambavantha and in japanese mythology as the mountain spirit (yama no kami). Read a book with one of these characters or another book that has any mention of the moon bear.
In Japan, the bear is present especially in the upper Japan culture. In Kituarahara-gun in Niigata folklore, the with mark comes from an amulet by yama no kami, which left the mark after being removed. In Indian folklore he lived as Jambavantha, from Treta Yuga to Dvapara Yuga. He appears in Ramayana, where he help Rama to find his wife, Sita. Also, is mentioned in “The life of Pi”, so you can read it for this prompt.
If you want to read some non-fiction about the Moon bear, please do so. Kids books or encyclopedia counts too.

📚 Suggestions of books / authors:
·       "The Life of Pi" or "Ramayana" are, of course, good fits
·       "Nametoko Yama no Kami" (Bears of Nametoko) by Miyazawa Kenji – I did not found this book translated yet, but I found a great article that is mentioning it here, if you want to check it out
·       "Muku Hatojū" has a short story named Tsukinowaguma. I don’t know if it was translated, I found informations about it here
·       "Mythquest 3: Jambavan: The Immortal Bear King" by Kumar, Anu

🧸️ About the Asiatic black bear: Asiatic black bears live in forests across southern Asia, from Afghanistan to Japan. They like mountains and can go up to 10,000 feet (3,000 meters) in summer. Their numbers are dropping because of habitat loss and poaching for their bile and body parts. They may lose half of their population in 60 years without conservation efforts. Asian black bears have uncertain population numbers across their range:  Japan estimated 8–14,000 bears on Honshū, but this is doubtful, Russia estimated 5–6,000 bears, but without clear data or methods, India and Pakistan estimated 7–9,000 and 1,000 bears respectively, but also without evidence, China estimated 15–46,000 bears, with a government estimate of 28,000, but these are also unsubstantiated.
