Overview
This is a labor of love to encourage readers to keep seeking out marginalized voices and read them all year round. I hope this challenge will help you find new favorites.
There are 140 prompts in the full version. That is twenty books across seven categories: Queer/LGBTQIAP2S+, BIPOC, Disability, Religion, Language & Geography, Non-fiction and Miscellaneous. This year, I am adding is smaller versions of this challenge. There will be one for 70 prompts total and one with 35. This breaks down to 10 or 5 per category. Some of the prompts will be required in the mini versions and at least 1/category will be a choice from the larger 20 prompts. Regardless of what version you pick or how many prompts you complete, putting in the work to diversify your reading is a beautiful and powerful thing.
As for the rules, the only ones I have are: read the book in 2024, and prioritize books by own voices authors. I’ll be recommending 5 books for each prompt in the categories starting in the next week. You can also DM me on Instagram at any time if you have a question about whether a book would fit. I’ll be adding this challenge to @The.StoryGraph soon and you’ll be able to see what others recommend. However, I would recommend double checking books from there as last year I saw many that were in prompts that they didn’t work for.
Lastly, this challenge is not exhaustive. I did my very best to cover a lot of different aspects of human diversity. However, you could write a 1000 prompt challenge and still miss things.
