🌈The Lovers, the Dreamers, and Me: A Muppets-Themed Challenge

41 participants (179 books)

Overview

As a child of the early '70s, I grew up watching the Muppets. Kermit and crew brought me joy when few other things did—and this remains true even today. Everything is just so much, all of the time; books are my refuge, especially those with a cozy or hopepunk vibe. They're Jim Henson-like in worldview:

I know that it's easier to portray a world that's filled with cynicism and anger, where problems are solved with violence. What's a whole lot tougher is to offer alternatives, to present other ways conflicts can be resolved, and to show that you can have a positive impact on your world. To do that, you have to put yourself out on a limb, take chances, and run the risk of being called a do-gooder. —Jim Henson, It's Not Easy Being Green and Other Things to Consider

I invite you to take a fun, hopeful, feel-good tour of your TBR with the Muppets. There's no end date for this challenge, and guidelines are simple:

  • Use each book only once.
  • In the spirit of the challenge, use books that make you feel good, inspire you, or expand your worldview in some positive way.
  • Kermit and his friends come from all over the world (and beyond!), and represent a wide assortment of backgrounds and identities; use this challenge to diversify your TBR.
