🌈 Disability Rep

70 participants (406 books)

Overview

❤️ I've hosted a disability reading challenge in July 2024, and this one is pretty much the same, except with more prompts (= more disabilities) and no start/end dates!

🧡 The prompts are various disabilities, and the bonus prompts accessibility examples. The list will get continuously updated and more disabilities/accessibilities added. (If you know any that aren't yet listed, feel free to contact me!)

💛 Simply read any books (audiobooks count too) that include any of the disabilities or bonus topics in the book. It doesn't have to be the main theme, as long as there's some kinda rep. The characters also don't have to be human.

💚 You can add as many books to a prompt as you want, as well as adding a book to as many prompts as the contents feature said prompt. You can also add books you've read before starting this challenge.

💜 The goal of this challenge is for you to read more diverse books, and also learn about said disability while you're at it.

💖 Additional info
- If you want to learn about people living with disabilities, check out the YouTube SBSK.
- Be mindful: some disabilities are spectrums. It’s only a disability when it actually hinders someone to live a “normal” life in their society. For example, not every autistic person is limited by autism and might not see it as a disability. Ask, don’t assume.
- Inclusivity: to reach more people, add subtitles to videos or alt text to images that you upload. Let all people be part of your art, even if it’s just a minority from your audience.
- Respect: disabled people aren’t babies who need your help. A lot can take care of themselves or already have caretakers. Again, ask, don’t assume, and treat them like you’d treat any other person.
