From a commenter: I love the idea oft-discussed with children’s books that “some books should be mirrors, and some should be windows,” which applies equally to adults– the familiar joy of seeing yourself in a book is incomparable and so needed, just as the expansive curiosity and delight of looking into someone’s world.
I first heard the concept of “window books” and “mirror books” in the context of children’s books — windows that let you see a different experience, mirrors that reflect your experience back to you.
