The first two months of the year will be basic character creation: choosing books that will determine your character race, class, background, and weapon of choice. The goal of this is to only have to read 1 book a month for this challenge, but the first two months have 2 each. You can choose to read them spread out between those two months in any configuration - you can even join the challenge late! You just have to do everything in order - character creation first followed by following the choose your own adventure prompts in order. If I have the mental energy this year, I'd love to have a few readathons or readalongs that tie in as well, but I don't want to over-promise and under-deliver! I don't know what this year will bring. But this feels like an attainable way to read together throughout the year in a way that's fun :)

There are a few ways you can make the challenge harder as well. One is that throughout the year there will be special bonus "side quests" such as prompts that allow you to forge new items, etc. For now, these are mostly just for flavor but if this reading challenge ends up being a success, I will find a way to tie these things in more!

In addition to the side quests, you can choose to follow multiple paths. You just have to do all of them in order. You can't choose one path and then for the next month choose one book from a different path. You'd have to read both books from two different paths before choosing a prompt from that path.

So, including character creation you can either do:

Easy Mode = character creation + one storyline = 14 prompts

Adventurer Mode = character creation + two storylines = 28 (or 32 if you choose to create a separate character for the additional storyline)

God Mode = character creation + all storylines = 38 (or 42 if you choose a new character for each storyline)

These numbers don't include the bonus side quests because I don't know how many of those we will have!

note: I am using a choose-your-own-adventure generator that I am then editing from in order to build a story because I do not have the brain power to come up with all of this on my own :) if I did, I'd write a book.
