Overview
Like many marginalized groups, disabled people are underrepresented in literature, and also within the publishing industry at large. Part of why we started the Disability Readathon is to draw attention to stories by and about disabled people.
We want disabled people to witness themselves in novels and blog posts and podcasts - finding yourself on the page is powerful and validating to your existence.
The Disability Readathon purposely includes and centers texts by multiply-marginalized disabled people to show that we are not all cis, straight, white men, and our experiences with disability differ vastly based on other vectors of marginalization.
We also want nondisabled people to better understand their relationship to disability and ableism, and to challenge their biases.
