You can start and finish this challenge whenever you like!

Inspired by various diverse reading challenges on here!! I personally didn’t feel that I was “challenging” myself with some of the reading challenges that I had joined so I figured I would make one for myself and share for anyone who is interested to join!! Some prompts are to broaden the range of types of authors you’ve read from and others are more general broadening ranges in genres/topics/moods! My main goal was not to make a checklist of #wokeness or a metric of value on anyones reading history. My hope is to stretch and see how varied of a reading history you can get, and hopefully inspire to read more outside one’s comfort zone in as broad and inclusive of a range as possible! Because this is inspired by challenges I have seen other make, some prompts may be identical or nearly-so to other challenges!
  • Open to anyone at any period of time!!
  • Follow your own personal goals or criteria at whatever pace YOU like best! I've left some notes on some prompts but they’re not the end-all be-all
  • Preferably done only adding books read after you start the challenge! But NOT required
  • No official start or end date! (because I wanted a challenge that would take me literal years to complete lol)
  • No order to filling any prompts out!
  • There’s a lot of overlap between prompts so if a book fills more than one prompt feel free to use it for as many prompts as you personally like!
  • Have fun!!!!

NOTE ON BONUS PROMPTS: For some prompt types, hyper-specific versions of that prompt, versions of that prompttype that have a lot of overlap or gray area with the basic prompt, or have a lot of ambiguity that will differ person to person might be instead included as bonus challenges! They aren’t meant to be seen as “less important” or “more challenging”!!  Some things are just harder to separate from others, or I thought that there was such a hegemony in what is available/usually read the original prompt criteria that it deserved acknowledgement of further possibilities for those interested!

NOTE ON GEOGRAPHY RELATED PROMPTS: My main idea for these was to have an author from that region, ideally published in that region as well. Even better if the topic is focused on the region but none of these are required beyond your personal self-challenge!

PERSONAL NOTE: Since my target audience for this challenge was myself most of the prompts are based off of what I’ve personally seen with not a lot of diversity in my life or lit-related spaces around me so if you feel there is an additional prompt that you would want to see please message me on tumblr @ vampirehowl and let me know so I can add it!!! (please be nice to me there i will cry so easy)
