Overview

I was inspired by the_escapist's challenge on the Storygraph "Explore Fantasy Sub-Genres" and rhea's challenge "Explore Science-Fiction Sub-Genres". Since I loved those genre challenges and the kind of books it's making me read, I'm creating one for romance covering both popular sub-genres and popular tropes. It is meant to encourage people to explore more variety in their reading and sometimes books different to what they usually read.

It would be best if participants use a different book for each category (it makes it more challenging) but feel free to do what fits your reading style best. Different books in a series can count for multiple prompts.

Prompt descriptions partially made up by myself and partially taken from https://blog.reedsy.com/romance-tropes/ for tropes, and for subgenres I used both a best selling genre overview https://www.harlequin.com/shop/pages/guide-to-romance-genres.html and a pretty extensive subgenres breakdown https://darlagdenton.com/2015/03/04/what-are-the-most-popular-sub-genres-in-romance-how-do-they-compare/

Note on spice levels: "spice" is used to explain how explicit a romance is or isn't. For example, a romance where the main characters only are shown holding hands has a super low spice level, while 50 Shades of Gray famously has a very high spice level. Choose books that fit the level of spice you are comfortable with. If you are underaged in your country please choose books with a lower spice level or books written for your age group.

Note on consent: sometimes people enjoy reading about something they wouldn't like in real life. Consent is key in all real life relationships, feel free to fantasize as you like though.
